Latest VHF offers built in AIS and ultimate connectivity

November 13, 2012

Award-winning marine electronics brand Simrad is pleased to announce the new RS35 fixed mount, Digital Selective Calling (DSC) VHF radio and the HS35 Wireless VHF Handset. The Simrad RS35 combines inbuilt dual channel AIS receiver and the latest VHF functionality, while the HS35 Wireless handset offers an impressive range and inductive charging.

Class D compliant for global use, the new RS35 VHF offers  inbuilt dual channel AIS receiver functionality, which allows AIS reception and VHF use via just one antenna. In areas such as busy shipping lanes or bustling marinas, the RS35 offers the ability to see, hear and be heard for increased safety.

The Simrad RS35 is also Industry standard certified to allow the VHF to be easily integrated into an existing system. Plug and play integration has many uses such as viewing another boat’s DSC distress call from a Simrad NSS chartplotter screen or receiving vital GPS location data for accurate DSC call information.

The RS35 AIS/VHF radio has dedicated menu and channel keys, separate volume and squelch knobs and a Distress button, along with an ergonomic fist mic. The Simrad RS35 has selectable Dual and TriWatch modes and a large internal speaker. The 4W external speaker is great for use as a PA and the 22W hailer horn has an automatic fog signal and a listen back function.

Additional features include 20 user-programmable names with MMSI and TrackYourBuddy™, which keeps you up to date with your friends’ positions, by allowing you to connect your VHF DSC position polling with your chartplotter to show the location of up to three boating friends on the chart display.

Leif Ottosson, CEO of Simrad Yachting said: “The new Simrad RS35 DSC VHF radio offers unrivalled functionality and flexibility, from AIS integration to the freedom to move around the boat with the HS35 handheld device, this VHF system is the ultimate on water radio solution.”

The innovative HS35 handheld wireless device is the perfect companion for the RS35, offering a neat and compact handheld solution. With a battery life of 8 hours and inductive charging, thanks to a unique induction plate on the back of the device, the HS35 is energy efficient and always ready to use!

The Simrad HS35 has a range of up to 100m from the RS35 VHF base, it also offers a ‘push to talk’ key and can act as an intercom between another HS35 unit or the RS35 base station. The HS35 also has a headphone jack and a belt clip for those who want to keep their hands free.

The RS35 is waterproof to JIS-7, with the HS35 obtaining IPx7 standard. The RS35 VHF and HS35 are protected by a two year limited warranty and supported for an additional three years by the Simrad 5 Year Advantage Service Program.

With expected availability from February 2013, the Simrad RS35 DSC VHF can be purchased from €399 Ex. VAT, the HS35 handheld wireless device is available from €169 Ex VAT. For more information on the Simrad RS35, HS35 or Simrad marine electronics, please visit www.simrad-yachting.com
