The Simrad brand is taking marine electronics for the superyacht market to the next level with the launch of StellaMaris™ a ground-breaking innovation in the field of fully integrated command and control systems for superyachts from Navico, the largest global player in marine electronics.
Conceived from customer feedback and born of technological ingenuity, StellaMaris™ has been developed to meet the evolving needs of superyacht designers and yards looking to replace the haphazard layout of a typical superyacht bridge with something entirely new. The goal has been to create a system that not only simplifies yacht command and control from a single interface, but also offers elegance and purity of line to complement the other high quality fittings and equipment that characterise the interior of the modern superyacht.
StellaMaris™ is a fully integrated system for leisure craft that allows the monitoring and control of every aspect of a yacht’s operation from a single point, combining navigation, electronics systems, communications, and internet and entertainment capabilities.
In line with Navico’s commitment to increasing the connectivity of boaters StellaMaris™ will feature remote diagnostic capabilities, allowing the real-time analysis of system issues by on-shore experts and the potential to substantially reduce time spent in dock undergoing maintenance.
The ability to download software upgrades from the internet will also ensure that systems remain up-to-date, and StellaMaris™ will of course be fully supported by Navico’s global service, support and dealer network ensuring on-the-spot support and repair around the world.
The introduction of StellaMaris™ has major implications for the design and management of large yachts. The most notable visual difference will be on the bridge, where the current array of assorted screens, readouts and input devices will disappear to be replaced by a discreet handful of identical displays.
Yards and boat builders will benefit greatly in reduced time and installation costs by having to fit only a single network throughout a vessel. Crew utilisation will also be greatly enhanced as one individual will be able to monitor and adjust all aspects of a yachts electronic, mechanical and leisure systems from a single point – raising operational efficiency and allowing the safety and comfort of owner and guests to be maintained without physical intrusion.
The Simrad StellaMaris™ system makes its debut at the Genoa International Boat Show 2008 at Pavilion ‘S’, stand F3, and has already seen substantial interest from a number of major yards. The underlying technology forms a key element of Navico’s development program and is expected to form the basis of further product releases over the next few years, with smaller yachts expected to benefit in time from the many advantages of fully integrated command and control systems.
