Simrad – Naviop shortlisted for METS Boat Builder Awards 2019

Southampton, UK - Simrad Yachting – a leader in the design and manufacture of world-class marine navigation, autopilot, radar and communications – today announced that together with Azimut Yachts their nomination in the METS Boat Builder Awards 2019. Azimut’s new Grande S10 and Simrad – Naviop have been nominated in the ‘Collaborative Solution between a super yacht builder and its supply chain partner’ category. The judging panel will announce the winner on Tuesday 19^th November at the prestigious Awards Gala Dinner during METSTRADE 2019 in the enchanting National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.

Azimut has been designing luxury yachts with style, innovation and quality for 50 years and chose Simrad - Naviop as a technological partner to develop an innovative experience for the control for its new Azimut Grande S10 providing a glimpse of a future world, today.

The integrated bridge, developed by Simrad - Naviop in collaboration with Azimut, introduces ergonomic concepts and technologies that promise to become the norm in the helms of the future. The interface is designed to combine clarity and readability, with a recalibrated level of instrumentation abstraction. The innovations in this helm solution revolve around freedom of configuration, whereby the captain or owner can decide the level of complexity and quantity of data to be displayed. Examples of this include different monitoring-navigation scenarios, or the opportunity to display the largest nautical map ever seen on a yacht on the ultra-wide 57.4” screen.

The interface is designed together with the screen layout, allowing users to change settings according to the scenario, while also allowing the spectacular rotation of the main screen, which folds up showing a greater portion of the horizon. The rotation of the main screen shows the normally hidden underside, equipped with a set of screens for minimal but clear and effective reading. The hardware-software integration through this specific gesture (the rotation with two alternative screens) is an exclusive Simrad - Naviop design and the first of its kind.

This ground-breaking solution is a significant step towards the end of the preconfigured graphic layout, at least for high-end solutions. Thus opening the way to the bridge's meta-projects, offering the first foray to a future in which the bridge will understand by itself what state it is in and adapt using artificial intelligence.
