Meet Plastic Odyssey, an inspiring project in marine ecology today.

Plastic Odyssey brings together a team of experts aboard one unique and innovative ship. The vessel serves as a research platform to provide solutions and drive positive change around ocean pollution.

The Plastic Odyssey Story

The Plastic Odyssey team has spent more than four years developing low-tech, open-source technologies to recycle plastic waste, and transform it into valuable resources. Ultimately, it’s about changing the course of plastic waste before it ends up at sea.

The wider objective is to help build an economically viable plastic waste treatment sector. This will create meaningful jobs, while fighting pollution at the source.

“Plastic pollution in the ocean is a wicked problem that requires innovative solutions. We are proud to support Plastic Odyssey in their ambition to stop plastic pollution at the source. Their unique mix of research, education and engagement with local communities has the opportunity to inspire lasting change” Tara Norton, Chief Sustainability Officer at Navico.

At the heart of the search for solutions is accessibility. Plastic Odyssey hope to provide universal access to concrete solutions, which help all of us avoid the use of plastic altogether .

The Expedition

To make all this possible, Plastic Odyssey is embarking on a three-year expedition, reaching some of the planet’s worst-affected areas.

And Simrad products will be on-board to support Plastic Odyssey along the way.

We’re providing Plastic Odyssey with a full bridge of cutting-edge marine electronics to help guide their way.
