How Does AutoCaptain Work?
More than just a helping hand, AutoCaptain™ delivers autonomous control1 for docking, navigating tight spaces, and busy marinas. Six integrated, depth-perceiving cameras give your vessel 360° awareness, letting it assess and respond to its surroundings in real time. The system continuously scans the environment, making intelligent adjustments to counter wind, current, and nearby above-water obstacles3.
Once docked, it can hold your vessel in position, giving the captain time to prepare lines, fenders, and secure the vessel—or maneuver safely to a nearby location. These smooth, deliberate maneuvers always take place with the captain at the helm1—attentive, in control, and able to take over instantly whenever desired.
Fully Integrated System
Developed in exclusive partnership with Mercury® Marine propulsion and paired with a dedicated Simrad® display app, AutoCaptain is seamlessly built into the vessel itself—preserving its clean design while delivering precision, control, and situational awareness beyond any bolt-on solution.

Can a user take over manual operation when AutoCaptain™ is engaged?
Absolutely. Captains can switch seamlessly between AutoCaptain™ and manual control at any time, using the joystick or traditional throttle and shift levers.
1The captain must remain attentive and maintain full situational awareness whenever AutoCaptain is in use.
2Holding at Dock provides temporary stabilization. It does not prevent all vessel movement or eliminate the risk of hull contact or damage. Properly securing lines and fenders in a timely manner is required to avoid damage to your vessel or nearby objects.
3All AutoCaptain features detect only above-water obstacles such as vessels, docks, pilings, and other floating objects. It does not detect shallow water, submerged hazards, swimmers, or other below-waterline risks. The captain is solely responsible for avoiding such conditions. Failure to do so may result in vessel damage, damage to below-waterline structures, or bodily injury.
